Pennsylvania sales tax nexus for online sellers comes from a physical presence in Pennsylvania, or from more than $100,000 of gross sales into Pennsylvania in the previous 12 months. There is no transaction count test. Once you have nexus, register through myPATH and collect the 6% state rate, plus 1% local tax in Allegheny County and 2% in Philadelphia.

What is the Pennsylvania sales tax rate?

The state rate is 6%. Only two places add a local sales tax: Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh, adds 1%, and Philadelphia adds 2%. Everywhere else the rate is 6%.

When does an online seller have to collect in Pennsylvania?

You must register and collect if you have a physical presence in Pennsylvania, or if your gross sales into Pennsylvania were more than $100,000 in the previous 12 months. There is no transaction count test. Inventory stored in a Pennsylvania fulfillment center is a physical presence.

What if you sell on Amazon, eBay or Etsy?

Pennsylvania requires marketplace facilitators to collect and remit sales tax on the sales they facilitate, so you do not collect on those orders. Your own website and other direct channels remain your responsibility. See marketplace facilitator laws.

Register online with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue through myPATH for a sales, use and hotel occupancy tax license. Register before you start collecting.

What is exempt in Pennsylvania?
